COVID-19 story by Pierson White, March 5, 2021
Pierson White shares his experience during the COVID-19 pandemic in Madison. He describes the many ways in which his life changed, starting with his contact with what was possibly one of the earliest cases in Wisconsin. After his school shut down abruptly due to COVID, he was activated by the US Army reserve as part of the mobilization to respond to the pandemic. Pierson talks about his regimented life as an IT specialist for a mobile medical unit. He reflects on of the shortcomings of the US health system in responding to the pandemic and expresses the uncertainty felt in March 2021 as emerging strains of the virus are on the horizon.
